INDIVIDUAL

[ Matches ]

Individuals compete 1-on-1 while performing the same prescribed forms (Shitei Waza). The shitei waza will be announced on the morning of the event.
  • 2-Dan and below will be assigned only Seitei forms
  • 3-Dan and above will perform one Koryu kata of their choosing, plus assigned Seitei forms.
Competitors are seeded based on their results and participation in past tournaments in Canada and US.

TEAM

[ Team Composition ]

Teams will consist of three (3) participants who are registered in the individual matches, and be selected by their dojo leaders. Each dojo may submit a list of maximum 2-teams/6-competitors to be counted for the team competition. (There is no limit to number of competitors per dojo in the individual competition)

Team ranking will be based on the sum of individual results with the following scoring mechanism: Win = 1 point, Flag = 0.01 points. Initial tie breakers will be determined by summing the total dan ranks of the team, with the lower total being ranked higher. If a tie still exists after these calculations, then that will be the final result.
Example:
  • Etobicoke Team A has three players: A (4 wins, 8 flags), B (0 wins, 1 flag), C (3 wins, 9 flags) = 4.08 (4D) + 0.01 (2D) + 3.09 (1D) = 7.18
  • MMK Team A has three players: X (2 wins, 4 flags), Y (3 wins, 8 flags), Z (2 wins, 6 flags) = 2.04 (4D) + 3.06 (3D) + 2.06 (2D) = 7.18
Since the score is tied after calculating based on wins and flags, we'll sum up the ranks. Etobicoke consisted of a team of 7D, while MMK had a team of 9D, therefore Etobicoke wins the tie breaker.
Each dojo must submit their team names by 9:00 AM on Sunday, December 3, 2017.

[ 2016 Team Match Format ] NOT USED IN 2017
A team match will consist of three consecutive 1-on-1 matches between members of each team. The first competitor (Senpo) will face the Senpo of the other team, the middle competitor (Chuken) will face the Chuken of the other team, and the final competitor, or captain (Taisho) will face the Taisho of the other team.

All competitors will perform the same three (3) assigned Seitei forms, after which the Referees will select a winner by show of flags. The team with at least two (2) winners out of the three matches will be considered the winning team. Senpo will be the only member who performs opening reiho, and Taisho will be the only member who performs closing reiho.

The match time will be decided on the day of the event.
